If you are employed the remainder of the time will be spent with your employer, following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 2 laid down by the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B) and the City & Guilds, leading to a certificate of apprenticeship.

Training Programme

The training includes all aspects of site and bench joinery such as:

  • Health and Safety
  • Use of woodworking tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of different types of wood and equipment
  • Benchwork (including manufacture of doors and windows etc.)
  • Roofing and Shutters
  • Scaffolding
  • Woodworking machines (Planes, Circular, & Band Saw, Mortice machine)
  • Portable electric tools (Handsaw, drills, jig saw)

During the apprenticeship the company which employs you would normally pay you a percentage of the skilled persons rate for each year of training.
