Advanced Security Technician

Advanced Security Technician Apprenticeships normally last for up to four years during which time you will attend our Training Centre one day per week for 3 years, following a Technical Certificate course.  The remainder of your time will be spent with your employer on site carrying out security systems installation work.  NWTC will monitor your Apprenticeship progress on a regular basis to ensure you complete your National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) at Level 2 and N.V.Q Level 3, plus a City & Guilds Technical Certificate and Key Skills.

Training Programme

Apprentices will gain experience and knowledge in the following skills

• Health & Safety
• Install cabling for security/alarm systems
• Install security/alarm equipment.
• Testing security/alarm equipment and systems
• Carry out site surveys
• Commission and handover systems
• Maintain security/alarm systems. 

During the apprenticeship the company which employs you would normally pay you a percentage of the skilled persons rate for each year of training.

Recruitment period

January to August.  Most apprenticeships commence in September of each year.

Selection Test

You should have or hope to gain Grade C or above in GCSE Maths, English, Science and a Technical subject.

You will first attend a selection test at NWTC.

Preliminary Interview

If you obtain good results in the NWTC Selection Test you will be invited to attend an interview with one of our Training Officers. 

Some evidence of practical ability and an interest in electrical work would be useful.

Company Interviews

Company interviews are then arranged for the most suitable applicants.

Applicants chosen for employment by the company will normally start in September.
