Advanced Motor Vehicle

Advanced Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships normally last for four years during which time you will attend our Training Centre or a College one day per week on a day release and the remainder of your time is spent with your employer following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) and Key Skills as laid down by the Motor Industry Training Council (M.I.T.C) and the City & Guilds, leading to a Certificate of Advanced Apprenticeship.

Training Programme

Motor Vehicle covers trades such as

  • Heavy or light vehicle maintenance & repair
  • Body repair and painting
  • Auto electrician

The training includes all aspects of site and motor vehicle such as:

  • Good Housekeeping
  • Risks to Health and Safety
  • Working Relationships
  • Carry out Routine Maintenance
  • Inspect Vehicles
  • Diagnose Complex Faults
  • Remove and Replace Engine/Chassis/Transmission Units
  • Remove and Replace Electrical Units

During the apprenticeship the company, which employs you, would normally pay you a percentage of the skilled persons rate for each year of training.

Recruitment period

January to August.  Most apprenticeships commence in September of each year.

Selection Test

  • You will first attend a selection test at NWTC
  • You should have or hope to gain Grade C or above in Maths, English, Science and a Technical subject.

Preliminary Interview

  • If you obtain good results in the NWTC Selection Test you will be invited to attend Interview with one of our Training Officers 
  • Some evidence of practical ability and an interest in Motor Vehicle would be useful.

Company Interviews

  • Company Interviews are then arranged for the most suitable applicants
  • Applicants chosen for employment by the company will normally start in September.
