Apprenticeship Access Course: Carpentry (site)

The Certificate in Carpentry is made up of units that provide learners with essential knowledge and practical skills to support future progress.

Training Programme

Units covered include:

  • Safe Working Practices
  • Manual Handling
  • Site Practice & Procedures
  • Structural Carcassing
  • Use of Circular Saws
  • Installing 1st & 2nd Fix components
  • Phase Testing

The aim of the course is to improve the learners opportunity of securing employment as a carpentry apprentice and every effort will be made by NWTC to find suitable companies.

Attendance is part-time and will be a minimum of 2.5 days a week, for 12 months.

 

Recruitment Period

January to August. Most courses commence in September of each year.

Application Forms are available from schools, Connexions or direct from NWTC using the online application form.

 

Selection Test

You are required to sit a selection test.

You should have or hope to gain Grade C or above in GCSE Maths, English, Science and a Technical Subject.

Some evidence of practical ability and an interest in the construction industry would be an advantage.

 

Preliminary Interview

If you obtain the necessary grade in the Selection Test, you will be invited to attend an interview with out Training Officers before being offered a place on the course.
