Engineering

Engineering Apprenticeships usually last for two years during which time you will attend our Training Centre or a College one day per week for initial training and Further Education.  The remainder of the time will be spent with your employer.  NWTC will monitor your apprenticeship on a regular basis to ensure you complete your National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 and Key Skills, which will lead to a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

Electrical Engineering

The installation and maintenance of electrical/electronic plant and equipment in a variety of Manufacturing and Service Industries.

Engineering Machinist

Using turning, milling, boring and other special machines to shape components and produce high quality finishes.

Welding and Fabrication

Bending, forming and welding plate, pipework and sheet metal. Manufacturing of Steel Fabrications used in the Construction Industry.

Maintenance Engineering

The installation and maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment in a variety of Manufacturing and Service Industries.
 

During the apprenticeship the company which employs you would normally pay you a percentage of the skilled persons rate for each year of training.

Recruitment period

January to August.  Most apprenticeships commence in September of each year.

How to Apply

Application Forms are available from schools, Connexions or direct from NWTC using the online application form.

Selection Test

You should have or hope to gain Grade C or above in GCSE Maths, English, Science and a Technical subject.

You will first attend a selection test at NWTC.

Preliminary Interview

If you obtain good results in the NWTC Selection Test you will be invited to attend an interview with one of our Training Officers.  Some evidence of practical ability and an interest in engineering work would be an advantage.

Company Interviews

Company interviews are then arranged for the most suitable applicants.

Applicants chosen for employment by the company will normally start in September.
