Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships normally last for two years during which time you will attend our Training Centre or a College one day per week for 2 years, following a Technical Certificate.  The remainder of your time is spent with your employer following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 2 and Key Skills as laid down by the Motor Industry Training Council (MITC) and the City & Guilds, leading to a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

Training Programme

Motor Vehicle covers trades such as

• Heavy or light vehicle maintenance & repair
• Body repair and painting
• Auto electrician

The training includes all aspects of site and motor vehicle such as:

• Good Housekeeping
• Risks to Health and Safety
• Working Relationships
• Carry out Routine Maintenance
• Inspect Vehicles
• Diagnose Non-Complex Faults
• Remove and Replace Engine/Chassis Units
• Remove and Replace Electrical Units

During the apprenticeship the company which employs you would normally pay you a percentage of the skilled persons rate for each year of training.

Recruitment period

January to August.  Most apprenticeships commence in September of each year.

Application Forms are available from schools, Connexions or direct from NWTC using the online application form.

Selection Test

You should have or hope to gain Grade C or above in GCSE Maths, English, Science and a Technical subject.

You will first attend a selection test at NWTC.

Preliminary Interview

If you obtain good results in the NWTC Selection Test you will be invited to attend an interview with one of our Training Officers. Some evidence of practical ability and an interest in motor vehicles would be an advantage.

Company Interviews

Company interviews are then arranged for the most suitable applicants.

Applicants chosen for employment by the company will normally start in September.
