Apprenticeships


An apprenticeship is an exciting way to get the skills and qualifications employers really want.

An alternative to sixth form or college.

Whether you are looking for a job that enables you to carry on learning, or are already in employment and want to gain further qualifications, an Apprenticeship is the option for you.  They allow you to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that will lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Who can Apply?

Modern Apprenticeships are available to anyone who has the desire and ability to succeed.

You can apply if you are

  • Leaving School
  • Leaving College
  • Already in a job and need training

What do they offer you?

  • a paid job
  • high quality training
  • recognised qualifications needed for your job
  • additional training courses or qualifications
  • other important skills such as information technology, team work and problem solving

 What qualifications will you get?

  • Apprenticeship NVQ Level 2, a Technical Certificate level 2 and Key Skills
  • Advanced Apprenticeship NVQ level 3, Technical Certificate at Level 3 and a Key Skills

    You can expect:

    • a written commitment from your employer to your training and development
    • your own training plan which clearly sets out how you will achieve your goals
    • regular meetings to discuss your progress
    • all the training, advice and help you need

What they lead to

  • An Apprenticeship can lead to an Advanced Apprenticeship or other appropriate qualifications.
  • Advanced Apprenticeships can lead to higher level or professional qualifications.
  • They can even open the way to university.

Description

Bricklaying

Bricklaying Apprenticeships usually last for two years during which time you will attend our Training Centre on a day release or full time course to obtain your Diploma, Key Skills, and Health & Safety.  If you are employed you will normally attend the Centre on a day release basis and  the remainder of the time will be spent with your employer on site.  You will follow the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 2 laid down by the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B) and the City & Guilds, leading to a certificate of apprenticeship.

Carpentry & Joinery

Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeships normally last for 2 years during which time you will attend the NWTC training centre on a day release or full time course to obtain your Key Skills, Health & Safety and diploma. If you are employed the remainder of the time will be spent with your employer, following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 2 laid down by the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B) and the City & Guilds, leading to a certificate of apprenticeship.

Engineering

Engineering Apprenticeships usually last for two years during which time you will attend our Training Centre on a day release or full time basis to obtain your National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 Performing Engineering Operations, Technical Certificate Level 2 and Key Skills.  If you are employed, you will normally attend the Centre on a day release basis and the remainder of the time will be spent with your employer.  NWTC will monitor your apprenticeship on a regular basis to ensure you obtain the qualifications you need to be awarded a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

Motor Vehicle

Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships normally last for two years during which time you will attend our training centre or a college one day per week on a day release course and the remainder of your time is spent with your employer following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 2 and Key Skills as laid down by the Motor Industry Training Council (MITC) and the City & Guilds, leading to a Certificate of Advanced Apprenticeship.


Description

Plastering

Plastering Apprenticeships normally last for 2 years during which time you will attend the NWTC training centre on a day release or full time course to obtain your Key Skills, Health & Safety and diploma. If you are employed the remainder of the time will be spent with your employer, following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 2 laid down by the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B) and the City & Guilds, leading to a certificate of apprenticeship.


Description

Security Technician

Security Technician Apprenticeships normally last for up to two years during which time you will attend our Training Centre one day per week studying for a Technical certificate and key skills.  The remainder of your time will be spent with your employer on site carrying out installation work to enable you to achieve your NVQ Level 2. NWTC will monitor your Apprenticeship in your company on a regular basis to ensure you obtain the qualifications you need to be awarded a Certificate of Apprenticeship.


Description

Advanced Carpentry & Joinery

Advanced Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeships normally last for 1 year during which time you will attend the NWTC training centre on a day release course to obtain your Diploma, Key Skills and Health & Safety. The remainder of the time will be spent with your employer on site, following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) Level 3 laid down by the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B) and the City & Guilds, leading to a certificate of advanced apprenticeship. 


Advanced Electrical Installation

Advanced Electrical Installation Apprenticeships normally last four years during which time you will attend our Training Centre or a College one day per week studying for a Technical Certificate and Key Skills.  The remainder of your time will be spent with your employer on site carrying out electrical installation work. NWTC will monitor and assess your Apprenticeship progress on a regular basis to ensure you complete your National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) at Level 3, Technical Certificate, Key Skills and AM2 test, which will lead to a certificate of Advanced Apprenticeship and registration as an electrician.

Advanced Engineering

Advanced Engineering Apprenticeships usually last four years during which time you will attend our Training Centre to obtain your National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 Performing Engineering Operations, Technical Certificate Level 3 and key skills.    For your Level 3 NVQ, NWTC will monitor your Apprenticeship in your company on a regular basis to ensure you obtain the qualifications you need to be awarded a Certificate of Advanced Apprenticeship.


Description

Advanced Motor Vehicle

Advanced Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships normally last for four years during which time you will attend our Training Centre or a College one day per week on a day release and the remainder of your time is spent with your employer following the National Vocational Qualification (N.V.Q) and Key Skills as laid down by the Motor Industry Training Council (M.I.T.C) and the City & Guilds, leading to a Certificate of Advanced Apprenticeship.
